The cistern for the WC fitted in the home contains a flushing device that allows the waste to be washed away down the drain when the toilet flush is operated. So, as long as this mechanism is working fine, it isnt really given a second thought, in fact most people are totally unaware of its existence. This device is called a siphon arrangement. This siphon lets the WC to flush by lifting and dropping a large rubber seal over a hole sitting in the bottom of the cistern. It operates by utilising the heavy water pressure in the full tank to keep its seal. However, the seal can wear or bubble. Both of these symptoms can cause a leak. It is quite possible that debris in the cistern is the culprit, like the remains of a freshener block. Belgravia Plumbers are a professional plumbing service. If you have a Leaking Siphon you should firstly, isolate the water supply and use the WC flush to move the water away. Take the lid off the cistern, then, the top of the siphon by turning and lifting it off. It may be clipped, so if it is, push them in and remove the siphon. The design of these siphons can vary. Visually inspect the rubber seal at the base. Check for any bubbling. If it looks in a poor state or is damaged, it should be replaced with a new one from your local outlet. A Belgravia Plumber is a qualified tradesman. Remove the whole unit for identification. The new on will probably need to be ordered so keep the old one for now. If the rubber looks like it is worn, replace with the new one. Clean out the cistern before replacing any part. Re-fit the top of the siphon back onto its base, by twisting or clipping as required. Place the lid back on the cistern. Restore the water supply and allow the cistern to fill, and check for leaks.
