Types of pumps:

The systems that we have in our home’s central heating system are more than likely to be one of two that are the preferred fit.

Firstly there is the fix headed pump. This pump will run at a single speed, which will make the hot water run around the system at a constant rate. Secondly there is the variable headed pump, and it’s speed can be adjusted. When the variable pump is installed, whoever installs it will balance the radiators, and adjust the speed achieved by the pump to find the most effective temperature for every room. A Belgravia Plumber is familiar with these pumps.

Now you can attempt to adjust the variable pump, however if you have any doubts about doing this yourself, call a professional plumber. When the temperature of a room is not adjustable by using the radiator valves, then,

it can be adjusted by adjusting the speed at which the pump is running. You must make sure that before you do this adjustment, all your radiators show the same drop in temperature. The best way to do this is to buy thermometers that you can clip on the radiators and measure the temperatures. One of these thermometers should connect to the feed pipe just below the radiator’s valve and the other one on the return pipe, also below its valve. Temperature differential is acceptable at about 11°C or 20°F. However if not you should close the lockshield valve slightly to raise the difference in temperature or open the valve to reduce it. Now adjust the pump’s speed slowly and in small turns until the favoured radiator temperature is achieved. Turn the pump off before making each alteration. Belgravia Plumbers have the trained technicians with the skills to carry out all plumbing work and provide peace of mind guarantees.
